Wondering if it might be related to stone flies, given it's proximity to the water.

You did well to get the photo you did. It is a long-horned caddisfly, but one really needs good detail of wings to be able to determine the genus and microscopic examination to determine the species. The larvae are aquatic, and those in this family (Leptoceridae), build and live in tubular cases.

Thanks I'll lurk by the pool down there and might be lucky again though there might be not enough to ID it - the microscopic examination would be in the too hard basket of course. A better picture anyway. I've got a good macro I can break out. I need to get a new bigger resolution little already ID'd cricket from the same area so it will be eyes down for a while in the morning before they really get warmed up.

Sounds good! So good luck. Have a look in the water (turn over a few stones or look on any bits of wood) you might find the larvae or pupae. Triplectides larvae usually live in hollowed out sticks that they carry around.

Will do, thanks :-)

If you can't get any additional information, we can ID it as Trichoptera sp. (order) as we have with other sightings:

That's great, we will see what flies out at me. Fingers crossed.

We don't get many caddisfly sightings, so glad to get your interest in them.

Certainly Trichoptera and family Leptoceridae.

I've got a artificial pond, so I'll watch that at home too. Good bug habitat.
