Verified nesting locations of the Gang Gang Cockatoo are few and far between, particularly in the Canberra area.

Chris I suspect that this part of Red Hill is a major breeding location, possibly because of the mix of Blue Gums (and their gumnuts bearing large seeds) planted nearby and remnant large hollow bearing trees in a large (400ha) patch of Box Gum woodland. Within about 500m of this location I have seen adult birds repeatingly entering hollows in two separate Yellow Boxes, Rob Spiers and Roy McDougall has reported over different years and trees nesting activity in Red Gums up the ridge, while Allison Rowell reported nesting activity in two Red Box - the area is worthy of further investigation. Thanks Michael, I agree. I have records also of possible nest trees in the area. I have asked Jacky to show me the other sites she knows about possibly later this week or early next week. Jacky mentioned your thoughts on Blue Gums and certainly fits in with what I wrote in the GG survey report.
