There is some debate about whether this might be an undescribed species flowering a bit earlier than B. montanus.

What physical traits might be used to distinguish this from B. montanus should they be different species?

I don't have a good answer Matt. My feeling is that this sighting is more probably B. umbrinus, based on the concave margins to the labellum (they tend to be parallel in B. montanus). Part of the confusion comes from David Jones reference to an early flowering variant possibly being an undescribed species.

I think this may be Bunochilus umbrinus, as you were alluding to Tony. The flowers look large and the lateral sepals are also quite large, long, flared etc. I have seen what I consider B umbrinus before in Namadgi along Bendora Dam Rd.
