Hi Michael, I wonder if you've observed any activity of this colony this year at all? They should be coming up, I am monitoring a colony at Black Mountain which are not far from flowering: http://canberranaturemap.org/Community/Sightings/Details/22849?Identified=true
Hi Aaron. I haven't been to see them for a long time. I would not be able recognise them or find them unless they were in flower. So I am waiting for flowering time to revisit the area.
Cool - makes sense Michael. I think that cluster of them that you've found there is quite significant as it was a previously unknown location for the ACT.. It looked really dense from your second image. The ones I know of at Black Mountain are about 5 plants which are several metres from one another - quite sparse.
I had no idea they were so rare. I thought they were Caladenia tentaculata. But then, many of the orchids I observed back then (around 2000) have been renamed. It really is a bit bewildering. So I put the photos up as unidentified to get Tony's opinion. I'll make it important to report back when I find them again.
They used to be called Caladenia aff tentaculata. Not particularly rare, but numbers do seem to have declined in recent years. One problem is from rabbits.
Thanks, Tony, for the clarification. The quality of the flora increases as you go deeper into the Rob Roy Reserve. I hoping that through this website, more people will explore the deeper parts and unlock some more of its secrets.
