Good observation, @PDL08. If a male glossy has barring in the tail, it is considered a juvenile or subadult. As for an age in years, you might be interested in an article by John Courtney, 'Plumage Development and Breeding Biology of the Glossy Black-Cockatoo Calyptorhynchus lathami', 1986. The study involved captive birds and reported that some tail feathers without bars (males) were observed at an age of 2 1/2 years. I have been able to find the abstract for this article on the website, informit.org.
