Coltriciella dependens

Coltriciella dependens has a bizarre growth habit: it’s stipitate, and yet it grows under a log, with the pore surface facing downward.

Immature specimens are whitish-grey and extremely hirsute, while the mature form is brown and resembles a wasp nest.

These are often overlooked due to their habit of growing UNDER the logs.

The species is usually easy to recognize because of the small, rusty-brown, pendant basidiocarps and microscopically by the finely verruculose spores.
