I am one of the supervisors of citizen science studies on Gang-gang diet and nesting ecology - which are winding up and either published or publications are being prepared. One aspect that remains a big unknown is Gang-gang movement. Throughout the year Gang-gangs will eat the cones of cupressus and the Black Cypress you have also been posting. Crowther is about the western limit for Gang-gang distribution - I was wondering whether you have observed any feeding on cones in your area and during what time of the year. Thanks Michael Mulvaney
Michael We have a Conservation Area which is monitored regularly by an experienced birder who lists species on eBird. You may be able to find this under 'Clover Leigh' Crowther. There are 114 species so far listed, but gang-gangs are. not among them. I have been here 28 years and have not seen one. My neighbour, who is a parrot aficionado, has not reported any. I have, however, seen Black Cypress cones that have been 'scarified' but do not know which parrot it is (just yesterday as it turns out). Assume it is the white cockatoo, but maybe galahs. If it is gang-gangs, they are sneaking in (and out) at night. HTH Frecko
