@judyc121,

Many thanks for your report. Was the koala still alive or dead? Was it collected or might it still be nearby? Do you have a photo of it?

The koala was definitely dead but not squashed, which made me think it was very recently killed. As it was the middle of the main road in a 90 kph zone, i couldn't stop to photograph it. I am not 100% that it was a koala but it looked so different to usual road kill (grey and white fur) that I looked twice. I only reported it as I'm not aware of any koalas in that area. The road runs between Black Mountain nature reserve and Aranda Bushland and the poor thing was probably trying to cross.

Hi again @judyc121,
Thanks for that info. There have not been koalas in the nearby reserves for almost a century. I went straight there immediately after I read your report but I did not find a carcass or a patch of blood (often seen where animals have been hit). I wonder if the marker on the map is in the position you intended, ie in the southbound side of the road about 300 m before the turn in to the Lower Caswell Drive Carpark?

Anyway, without a photo, unless you provide a very convincing reason to verify it as a koala (including that you are experienced identifying roadkill of possums, wallabies, koalas and other animals) I will have to confirm it as just a mammal, or not confirm it at all, sorry.

Sorry, i should have said that it was on the northbound side and I'm not totally sure the exact spot. I was so surprised that I didn't think to pay close attention. As the first time using the app, I haven't paid enough attention to the details. I'm sorry to have wasted your time and can understand why you're marking it as a mammal. I'll know better if there's a next time. It would be incredible if there were koalas there but the chances must be tiny, sadly. Many thanks for checking, and, once again, apologies for wasting your time.
