on damp ground sloping into dam leaves fleshy, stems squarish with fruit visible on stem in photo 2

Barb, I can't see the succulent leaves of C. in the 1st photo; apart from umbrella sedge your second photo seems to show 2 species: the flowering plant and a plant in the upper part right hand side which I think is the Common Sneezeweed with flower heads.

OK, I cropped the second photo a bit. Ignore the sedge and Sneezeweed. You will have to download the image to see the details of the fruit on the stem.

Flowers with six petals makes this Lythrum (Calandrinia should have 5). Note also the wetter habitat.

Oha; many thanks for Id Ciaran; we don't come across Lythrum often; now I remember it in a drainline close to small dam further to the south...
