It's either Centaurium erythraea or C. tenuiflorum, but hard to work out which from the photos.

Thanks very much RWPurdie. I plan another walk and will try for better photos. There was a lot of it.

One of the things to look for is whether each plant has a rosette of leaves at its base. The basal rosette is absent or weakly developed in C. tenuiflorum and present and distinct in C. erythraea. The other distinguishing characters are: in C. tenuiflorum, the corolla lobes are 3–5 mm long; the calyx is mostly 6–8 mm long and usually at least two-thirds the length of corolla tube. In C. erythraea, the corolla lobes are 5–6 mm long; the calyx is mostly 4–6 mm long and less than two-thirds the length of corolla tube. So, if possible, take photos of the base of the plants and close-up photos of the flowers side-on.
