It certainly is in the right area for flagellum. I would have liked a better look at the head but happy to go with flagellum.

I considered having a look at the shy guy but thought probably not a good idea! They certainly are similar to baby browns but I felt he looked different.

Baby browns always have one black bar on the nape behind the black head, not present here. The only other possibility is Suta dwyeri. Their black heads are a bit different which is why I would have liked a peek at the front of the head. They also have a different mid body scale count which you would not have been expected to provide!

this looks more like dwyeri to me, based on that solid and large nape. where abouts was it found? whilst itss not the most reliable way of identification, the species tend to occupy different niches locally, with dwyeri typically occuring in more forests and rocky outcrops and flagellum prefering open grasslands with some rock cover more (this is just observational and anecdotal).

We have a combination of that landscape here it was on edge of both though... under some rocks. It looks bigger here than it was as well.

I have manually updated the location to be more accurate and made it public. This guy was in a grassy rocky area on a slope leading up to a more forested area. Its a combination of grassland, scrubland and forest and theres a creek at the bottom of the slope so animals regularly travel from higher up down to the creek. It was under a rock I moved to look at. Cool weather so probably trying to stay warm.
