User's notes

This looks like a Cardamine. paucijuga does grow locally but this looks quite different. These plants are confined to very wet areas of this small creek. Sprawling in a small pool, on a vertical rockface in trickling water and muddy soil at the base.

I'd wonder about Cardamine microthrix. Any chance of a better look at the seedpods.

I will have a look at some other photos. If that does not help I will collect a sample for ANBG in a couple of weeks.

I have replaced a photograph with one that shows a small bunch of seed pods in front of a grey rock. I have tried to enhance this photograph, but I am not sure what it can add. I am curious about this plant as I have been up and down this section of the creek fairly often and not seen it before. However, this particular hollow needs a bit of mountain goat to get into and its some years since I have been to this exact spot.

Right, well with the seedpods I went and put it through the Vicflora cardamine key (which has all 6 local species). Using the key, it seems that my initial idea was not the correct one as terminal pinna of the cauline leaves have fewer than 5 teeth or lobes (so not C.microthrix).

Vicflora seperates the two remaing local species, C.paucijuga and C.papillata based upon features on the cauline leaves. As there are few and for the most part they are not pinnate or pinnatisect this plant is C.papillata.

A good record as Cardamine species are uncommonly recorded!
