What are the key aspects I need to look at to better id frogs in future? When I photograph them. I believe I photographed 4 different species that night (haven't had a chance to crop in and correct for the flash and upload for some or the other species may end up only being 2 that actually have worthwhile images). But I really don't understand which parts of the frog I need to be really focused on to get the right Id.
Front on shots are often not very helpful as we have seen here. A clear side shot of the dorsal surface and a belly shot if possible (especially for Crinia). For some species it is useful to show the hidden colours in the groin and thighs. Litoria verreauxii usually has two stripes down the back (barely visible here) called ewingii stripes which could have been the reason it looked like Lim. peronii to you. Different species often require different aspects for positive id. A good start is to download FrogID app from the Australian Museum. It gives you images, calls, distributions and descriptions and is a great asset for anyone dealing with frogs. Good luck and keep posting.
Thanks so much for your help! I'll definitely refer back to this when I attempt to make more ids and try to use photos with more relevant aspects highlighted
