Hi Annie - did you see the male feeding the female. It is not clear to me that it is a young female in the photo. This is of great interest as late in this years breeding season we unfortunately discovered a half eaten female in the nest. Almost certainly the culprit predator was a Brush-tail Possum. At another tree we have motion triggered camera evidence of Brushtail Possums killing and eating a nesting adult female. But we didn't have a camera on this tree and we don't know whether it was an advanced chick, adult or both that was predated at this hollow. It seems most likely that it was the chick and this may be the parents revisiting the hollow or of course it could be birds unrelated to the breeding event.

Hi Michael

My partner just saw the birds at the nest while walking the dog. He noticed the bird sitting on top and about 5 minutes later the other bird appeared. We’ve been watching the tree and about a week before there were 4 birds hanging around. Not sure this helps much.

He has also seen a bird in a hollow down near the Curtin oval above the containers.

Fingers crossed the chicks have survived.

Cheers Anne
