Hi Con, as a general rule, Camponotus never (or probably never) have spines at the back of the body before it joins to the gaster (abdomen). Polyrhachis, on the other hand, are commonly called Spiny Ants because they almost always have spines in this area. Cheers, Jon

Thank you. Jon. Your comments are much appreciated. I have set myself the task of making some sort of suggestion for every entry I make. Considering my profound level of ignorance across all taxa except birds, this requires a lot of work and inevitably making many mistakes. Any help on the journey is much appreciated. I had been aware that Dryandra Street Woodland had golden bum ants of different species. This one finally cracked that nut, a bit. I really appreciate the work of the moderators.
