Fantastic Barb! I passed by several times when it was not in flower and thought I should take photos; I thought it looked different to D revoluta which I know from higher up the slopes.
The distribution shows more records: 1 on Mt Majura and 1 on Mt Ainslie. Great find and photo. Cheers

Used to be Dianella longifolia longifolia, I think the local population is now this undescribed species.

Tapirlord, Can you get the D. longifolia var longifolia taken off the list then? There are just 2 sightings on it which could be moved. The photos used with the species are the same.
But in Victoria they still recognise D. longifolia var longifolia so maybe it still has to be on the list, with different photos. And in VicFlora sp aff Benambra is called D. longifolia var grandis and it is critically endangered. The criteria they use to distinguish them are the type of leaves.
The commonly planted one around Canberra is var longifolia with darker green leaves and darker flowers. I have both growing in my garden - the paler var grandis type came from seed collected at Nangus cemetery.
ALA also uses the D. longifolia var grandis name for sp aff Benambra.

On revisiting the VicFlora key I now think the Dianella from Nangus is D. tarda

See Dianella tarda (Late-flower Flax-lily)

Barb I'm just about to go away so don't have time to sort this out until at least Saturday. I'm not particularly familiar with the change in taxa & how widely accepted Dianella sp. aff. longifolia (Benambra) is. Dianella longifolia longifolia is taxa that i use on the South coast project which will have ended up here after global taxonomy launched. Honestly I have no view on what we use so long as we are consistent. Having said that I'm not sure when or why the change was made, @MichaelMulvaney might know?

Sorry not up with the latest but our original use on Dianella sp. off. longifolia (Benambra) came via specimens lodged at the National Herbarium and after consultation with Dianella expert Geoff Carr - so would want good reason to change - thanks Ciaran if you are able to investigate this further.
