User's notes

Baldy's head is looking worse than ever, with very little red left, although he now has one red plume. However his behaviour seems unaffected and he and his partner spend a lot of time grooming each other. They are still working on two hollows. There seems to be some problem with Hollow 2 as they often sit on the edge and complain loudly into it, but they persist with it, and 4 days ago, they both entered it and were clearly doing construction work. Hollow 3 seems to be a backup in case it's needed. Today they were both near Hollow 3 when we arrived, but she quickly flew to 2 and started complaining. He stayed and was able to chase off the annoying magpie that has made observations very difficult recently. He then joined her at 2 where they did lots of grooming next to the hollow but didn't go in. We have also seen them chasing off cockatoos from Hollow 2.

Great observations Cath! I hope he's going to be ok.

Thanks Cath - the growling is usually reserved for when there is another animal in the Hollow - interestingly they chased a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo away - I wonder whether the Cockatoo was in the hollow when they were growling. Also good on Baldy for demonstrating that Gang-gangs prepare more than one hollow - we had observed this and were 99.9% sure but good to have it at 100%.

Also I am transferring this record to the proper Gang-Gang records as I want the identified Gang-gang page to act as a gallery of loveable rogues. However please keep putting any new sightings of identifiable birds into this category so that I am alerted to and can record down in my book the seperate sightings
