The first photo / scan shows E. bonariensis with its blue-green foliage and purply bracts to the right and for comparison E. sumarensis to the left; second close-up photo of seed heads taken by Barbara Read and I took the 3rd photo in the field with E. bonariensis shown in the front and E. sumatrensis in the back.
E. bonariensis does not always have the purply coloured bracts - " with many florets, white to pink, sometimes tinged purple" https://apps.lucidcentral.org/plants_se_nsw/text/entities/erigeron_bonariensis.htm
Waltraud Are you sure these are not just two colour variants of E. bonariensis? NSW flora key for Conyza has "Involucral bracts at least with a few long hairs at apex and when reflexed at maturity whitish on the inside; pappus white or pinkish; receptacle smooth pitted Conyza bonariensis Involucral bracts without long hairs at apex; pappus straw or golden; receptacle usually rough pitted Conyza sumatrensis" Also as we have seen elsewhere Tall Fleabane E. sumatrensis does grow taller ... Hi barb Isobel Crawford helped id the 2 specimens in the field but I will pass on your comments to her. I may even retrieve the two specimens from my bin so you can inspect them more closely. w
Hi Waltraud - I've looked at the samples and am satisfied that the 2 plants are as you first described them above. I'll send you some photos of the close up flowers. Barb
