She tells me it was just a case of the photos not being sharp enough. I suspect it's the same with Riccia as many other genera (of plant/animal/fungus/etc) - some species are fairly easy to recognize from an unsharp photo, others need a very sharp photo - and, from recollection of what she's said in the past, some species may not be identifiable from even a superb photo.
