This is a series of 12 pictures of eggs/larvae/ moths that lived in a terrarium that I set up. I found six eggs on an acacia leaf, which hatched on 19th March 2022. The pictures show the caterpillars at different time points (five green ones and one brown form). They rest flattened against branches during the day and are active during the night. They have a strong preference for the acacia I found the eggs on (Blackwood?) and a second one, and only reluctantly eat other acacia leaves I tried to feed them (including silver wattle).
From 17th April onwards, the caterpillars started to build white, silken cocoons amongst the leaves/glass walls. Today (8th May) only one caterpillar remains "uncocooned" and actively feeding. Last night I noticed the first adult moth had emerged. It is largely brown (Pararguda nasuta?), ca. 1.75 cm long, has slightly "fringed" antennae and wings. In the pictures it is shown together with the remaining caterpillar and a 5 cent coin as reference.
Thanks guys! Just to note, I actually uploaded 12 pictures, but noticed now that only five of them are visible. I assume that five pictures is the max amount of photos that can be included per post?
