User's notes
Fruiting St John's Wort growing densely at the bottom of a large drainage line around National Tree Days community plantings; some of these invasive weeds are over 130cm tall with a stem diameter of more than 1cm at the base and are far too big for pulling by a 160cm tall elderly woman. Each of the plants carries 100s of fruits and 1000s of seeds. Each seed will be viable in the soil for decades. Volunteers alerted the land manager of the nature reserve about the spreading problem for more than a decade.
Unfortunately, it was not possible for the land manager to deliver water so that volunteers can mix herbicide for spraying StJW which left "pulling" the only option for volunteers to deal with the spreading pest. This impossible task is a sure way to discourage volunteers who feel overwhelmed and left alone.
