User's notes

Surprise! After weeks of observing, I was sure (because of the loud feeding that went on and on and on) that there had to be more than one chick in the hollow. However, only one male poked his head up from the hollow, and seven days later was close to fledging. We assumed the constant feeding had therefore been just a well cared for young male. Imagine my astonishment, then, when I looked up from my musings this afternoon to discover a female chick curiously checking out the world, with her brother playfully begging for attention. I could assure myself that this was a young female, because the mum was also there, regally silent on a nearby branch - not surprised at all by the appearance of her daughter.

Thanks Lisa - great news - the white beak is also indicative of a chick one;y newly exposed to light, the males is already starting to go grey.
