This bird was in our birdbath this morning, when I enlarged the image I saw that it has striking purple/blue eyes. Any clues

Thanks for posting your sighting Jeff. It's fascinating seeing how species such as the SBB gradually extend their ranges through the suburbs. The SBB may have begun as a small group in gardens 100m north of Mt Rogers where there were gardeners' fruits and vegies to augment their diet.
