"Scene of a crime" : Can anyone ID this poor hapless victim ? Fell prey to predation, on a Nature strip, Antill street Watson, CTS10 The Fair (CAT CONTAINMENT ZONE !! ) . Approx size is about Rock Pigeon sized. I could not locate Head or feet to assist with ID. The Green Wing feather stripe appears to most distinguishing feature ? Wood Ducks regularly graze here, but this bird seems wrong size and colour pattern for that ?
Pretty sure it is a Wood Duck, mostly grey plumage, black on the edges, and the green iridescent area narrows down the possibilities quite a lot. There are also a few feathers that are finely speckled in the first image, which match the body feathers of a Wood Duck.
Many Thanks " NatureGuy" and others. A Q? For you please. From the predation scene, and pattern of feather distribution, can you suggest the likely predator Culprit ?, eg. Fox, Cat, Domestic Dog ? Any suggestions ? Of interest to know as this incident happened within the boundaries of The FAIR CTS10, which is a Designated CAT CONTAINMENT Zone !
