I had walked to the edge of the track to see if I could spot the snake which I had seen moving through long grass in the other direction, but heard a noise at my feet, and looked down to see it there. When it spotted me it literally jumped, and turned and fled back into the long grass. Lucky for me it chose flight not fight.
