User's notes

We came across this goanna crossing the road. Having seen many road kill our drivver stopped to chase it off the road. We fully expected it to make a run for it on seeing us, instead it stubbornly decided to stay on the road. Even when gently probing its tail, instead of heading for the hills it reared up into protective mode lashing its 'protector' with its tail. It did however, evenutally move off into the undergrowth beside the road.

Nice specimen and good photos. Photos of left and right faces enable individuals to be distinguished. Not many other RG records near that section of the road. Most are roadkills further north and a few to the south.

Don, is this not rosenbergi? Why are we leaving it as Varanus sp?

John, I guess I was having a 'senior moment' - fixed now. Thanks for asking.
