User's notes

I’ve always thought of these as jack jumper ants, didn’t find any nests.

Hi Tapirlord, you are spot on to call these Jack Jumpers (or Jumping Jacks, depending on where you grew up). In the old days they were all one species, Myrmecia pilosula, but were broken up into about 4 species in 1991. The most common species around here are Myrmecia pilosula and Myrmecia croslandi, but you need them under a microscope to tell them apart, which is why all these ants are IDed in CNM as "Myrmecia pilosula species group". Or Jack Jumpers! Cheers, Jon
