User's notes

This is, I am sure, a long shot, but I'm wondering if anyone can identify the frog which the Little Bittern has caught, and is in the process of killing and eating :( It looks quite large, and I thought of Pobblebonk, but I don't recall hearing them at this location. It may have been alive and healthy a moment before these photos were taken, but I am pretty sure it was not afterwards! The third pic was taken an hour or two later, and sorry for the even worse photo, but it is taken from a video, and I was wondering if this could be a "tadpole" of the same frog species?? Thanks for any help....

Hi Christine

great shots- what an amazing observation- I would think it is a pobbelbonk as you can detect a white/creamy stripe along the side of its head. Also the size is a giveaway as you have observed- so the large tadpole could well and truly be of a pobbelbonk as well!

Pobbelbonks are frequently observed in the Kelly swamp as part of the annual FrogTober Census- among several other species! Enjoy the wetlands- there is always so much to see.
