User's notes
The final image shows the orange coloured pterostigma located on the outer edge of each wing near to the tip. These thicker and heavier wing cells apparently assist the performance of insect wings during gliding and active flight by raising the critical flight speed. This is the speed limit above which a particular insect’s wing will physically bend and flap, and feathering vibrations will occur, making flight impossible for the insect above that speed.
