I don't know; perhaps botanists have an idea. Otherwise, I suggest waiting for flowers...

Max there is a Leptospermum sp. record close by; see Leptospermum sp. (Tea Tree)

... perhaps check for old fruits (capsules) including on the ground ...

I have checked for any old capsules etc over the whole plant / on the ground, there are none. Perhaps this specimen has not reached Flowering maturity yet ? Seems like a relatively juvenile plant. I checked the other Leptospermum photo from Waltraud's comment, the leaves and red tips are quite similar to my record (photo).

Same goes for this sighting, looks more like L.multicaule with flowers

Same plant, this is a younger shrub about 1.25m tall

Max, the fact that it does not retain its fruits confirms for me that it is L. brevipes. Isobel.

Thanks Isobel

?? The Older plant DOES retain it's capsules, refer to photos and and also the specimen given to waltraud --> Isobel, which does have old capsules. Puzzled ?

Max, L. brevipes retains opened fruits for up to about a year. See the first question in Plantnet:

Fruit either not woody or if ± woody then the valves not woody; usually shed soon or at most before the following season; seeds ovoid-cuneiform with the surface reticulate
cf. Fruit woody, woody-valved and usually persisting beyond the following season; seeds irregularly linear or linear-cuneiform with the surface longitudinally striate

The individuals in my garden have <1-2% of last season's fruits still on plant. They are all open, and fall when touched, i.e. are deciduous, as described by VicFlora. Why don't we go for a walk sometime and look at the population together? Isobel

OK, I see your point about not retaining çapsules now, ie for longer periods as closed capsules like some other Leptospermum species do. Happy to go for walk, at your convenience, Waltraud also expressed interest. 🙂
