Nuptial flight gone wrong? It was still alive. After I rescued it, it set off with great determination.

Hi Con, yes, definitely looks like a nuptial flight which didn't go according to plan. I can't be sure what the identity of the ant is, but it could be a Melophorus species as it looks like it has a little beard under its chin (a number of long curved hairs), which is a characteristic of the genus.
