The Australian Faunal Directory continues to treat Proteuxoa (genus) as a synonym of Thoracolopha (genus). However in their revision of both genera, Moths of Victoria treat both moths currently known in the CNM taxonomy as P. verecunda and T. flexirena diffrently moving them both the the Thoracolopha genus, namely T. verecunda and T. flexirena, respectively. This is because the MoV authors have treated species with a dark scale patch in the forewing as Thoracolopha rather than Proteuxoa. Consequently a PDF which accompanies their recently pubished Part 9 entiled: 'Proteuxoa and Thoracalopha. Identification of Thoracolopha spp' 3/3 gives an illustrated guide for distinguishing T. verecunda from T. flexirena based on the characteristic shape of the dark scale patch in the forewing. Looking at that guide I think this moth looks more like 'verecunda' than 'flexirena'. Pending any future consensus decision to change the CNM taxonomy I suggest P. verecunda for this sighting.
