This is a Jacky Lizard (Tree Dargon) A. muricatus. I had to look very closely at the photos as the location is just a few hundred metres from a site with Nobbi Dragons (C. nobbi). Female Nobbi Dragons are very similar to Jacky Lizards. The presence of a dorso-lateral fold on the specimen in the photograph helped. What would have been more helpful to have observed is the colour of the inside of the mouth - yellow in Jacky Lizard and pink in Nobbi dragon.
Ah, so how do I get it to open it's mouth and pose for the camera? I suppose it could have been a more helpful little dragon if it had posed on a tree and not on a rock as well ;). Well I thought it might be one of those two, but have not the knowledge to be sure, or what the differences I need to look for are, so am grateful for your expertise. Thanks for that extra info Will.
Yes a good point Christine - seeing mouth colour without the specimen being caught does require patience and luck - and a pair of binoculars - you can sometimes see them yawn or swallowing a prey item and the mouth colour may be seen if the angle is OK.
