best way to separate Miturgids and Lycosids is via the eye pattern. Both have eight eyes but the former has its four largest eyes in a square pattern, whereas Lycosids have two large eyes in the centre, which I can see clearly here now on my PC, rather than the glimpse i had on my phone previously.
Looks like a wolf spider but I think it is a Prowling Spider (Mitugidae), Whyte and anderson say that the main difference is that the legs of wold spiders end in three claws while those of Miturgidae have two. Your photos are excellent and I can make out two claws. Possibly Mituliodon tarantulas. Did you happen to see the underneath of the spider?
Hi Michael, unfortunately the spider was less than co-operative and I was not able to photograph the underside. I was a little surprised to see the eye reflection from the flash.
I've taken a brief look through other sightings which have been submitted to CNM and I think your individual resembles #4087330, #4255046, #4258993 & #4259032. Perhaps the photos there may help draw decisive features, although none have any underside photos. Note: one of them has an ID of Lycosidae sp already.
