This is the first time these have flowered in years. Very happy to see them. In waterlogged creekline between dams.
The recent rains have triggered many local plants to flower (some out of season).
No unfortunately. I took the photos when I first noticed the plant because I know these are a favourite food for our local fauna. The next day it was gone. I went back and checked today and there are no signs of further flowering here (c. 5 plants) or in the larger patch behind the dam (c. 30 plants). I was surprised / excited to see them as they haven't flowered for the past few years and it also seems like an unusual time. The remains of the flower stalk are still there and there are a few small leafy growths off the stalk (not sure if this helps). Otherwise I will wait until spring and try to get more photos if they grow.
There are a lot of normally spring flowering species flowering now. I have not seen any explanation. If you have uploaded this species at this site onto CNM before, could you make a comment with a link to the other sighting number both on this sighting and the previous sighting. Tapping on the name Canberra Nature Map at the top of the screen will bring up the sighting number.
I haven't recorded this species on CNM before because I haven't seen any flowering since spring 2016 which was before i started taking photos to upload.
Hi Betty, I removed one of the old images and added a new picture from more recently of the stalk (flower unfortunately got eaten). Some leaf-like growth on stalk. Hope this helps with confirming your ID.
