User's notes

A small broad leave plant growing from bulb clusters. The photos show the type in various stages of growth (less the flowering stage - small white flower). The bulb clusters are loosely bound, so they tend to break apart when one plant stem is removed from the ground or dug up. First noticed a few years back and have become quite invasive in one small part of the backyard garden. No idea on ID, or how to control. Just today, I have cleared a small section of garden bed, and sifted out what I could, as the inactive bulbs can appear to be small stones. Plants have been removed to the rubbish and sifted soil to a separate area on the property (to check if I missed any of the bulbs).

Oxalis articulata has no bulbs. Oxalis debilis does, and produces bulbils from the old bulb, as shown in your photo. Both species suggested normally have pink flowers.

thanks folks. have uploaded a photo from 2019 with the flower stem attached. unfortunately the flower petals had fallen off. still recall them as being white in colour, but will certainly go with your description and possible solution where the family dog is able to be separated from the area Betty. thanks. regards.
