I've tentatively identified this as a swamp wallaby by comparison with pictures of various wallabies. The paws to the wrists and the tail were very dark.
Hi Fledgling, well identified. This species is also, and more appropriately, known as the Black Wallaby. They are present in most units of Canberra Nature Park, especially the ones that have shrubby vegetation and the larger ones. But unlike Eastern Grey Kangaroos, they do not penetrate many suburbs as far as this one has. In some places, including the Ainslie-Majura Reserve, there are also Red-necked Wallabies.
