Significant sighting

Unseasonal record, not just locally, but at a national scale. Joins just 3 other Koel records (on ebird) in Australia this June, all in Queensland. They should be in SE Asia at present, so this bird is a long way from home. They are usually in the ACT from Oct to Mar.

User's notes

The bird was being swooped by two Pied Currawongs (see 4th photo) I watched the bird fly up to the ridge line of the house on the corner. The flight wasn't strong. A neighbour watched a koel drinking slowly from his bird bath on the same day. He observed that it seemed to be moving with a lack of confidence.

Hi Rob
Could you confirm the date 17 June. It is a remarkably late record - they depart at the end of March and return in October (can only locate single records in Aug and Sep).

Hi Ryu
The photo's date of 17 June 2019, 7:53am accords with my written GBC notes. Date also confirmed by neighbour who lives in my GBC area.

It sounds like the bird was not healthy and may not have been able to migrate.
