This dam was dry recently and is now full of Persicaria.

I am almost certain this ID is OK. With all members of the Polygoniaceae family, it is a good idea to get a photo of the ochrea (sheath) at the base of a leaf. This is often important in identification.

Thanks Betty, I will try to remember next time. The sighting is of the taller dark green plants. They were surrounded by smaller lighter green ones but I think that was just the water/nutrient supply.

You are probably right. Though I have once seen two species of Persicaria growing together.
