User's notes

An amazing nest entrance, and there are two different ants in one of the photos

Hi Kevin, the first photo shows a meat ant (Iridomyrmex purpureus) in the bottom right-hand corner, while the ant on the nest I can't ID - it could be a Camponotus or possibly a Melophorus. The nest is very interesting, as it seems to be made of carton rather than soil, so if you get the chance to take more photos with ants entering or exiting the nest it would be good to see them. Cheers, Jon

Thanks Jon
I have added 2 photos, the structure appears to be made from grasses, glued together rather than woven. I had thought it was soil until I looked at my photos on the computer and was quite surprised.

Again thanks Jon. I took the photo because I thought it was unusual, in my nearly 60 years in Canberra. But I keep being surprised and you, the moderators, make it all worthwhile.
