Large distorted growth in small wattle tree, ants rush out to defend it when touched (visible in second and fourth photos)

This is likely to be Uromycladium implexae if the tree it is on is Acacia implexa. To identify it to species or species group requires microscopic examination of the spores and how they develop and then modern molecular techniques may be needed to take it to species. Some Uromycladium species infect more than one species of Acacia and some species of Acacia are infected by more than one species of Uromycladium.
