Thanks Alison Do you know whether your photos including the one with a clear image and a blurred bird in the background are of the same bird or did you capture both birds?
Hi Alison (and Michael) There is a possibility that the mysterious Red Hill Little Eagle that has been intriguing people for 2-3 years, is one of the Black Mt pair, on occasional visits. This year the Red Hill bird has a notch in one of its primary feathers on the left wing, which is visible when the feathers are spread out, as at this link, Hieraaetus morphnoides (Little Eagle) on 9 Sep 2018 . All three of your photos posted on CNM show that ONE of the BM birds lacks that notch (but it has a tiny gap in the rear edge of the secondary feathers of its left wing WHEN SPREAD, as in your photos 1 and 2). None of the three photos show the second Black Mt bird fully. If you have more photos showing the other bird with its primary feathers spread out, even moderately blurry ones might show the notch in the primary feathers if it is present. cheers
Hi Don, I've added two photos of the second bird but not sure how useful this is as the wings are spread out. They did however, fly off in the direction of Red Hill.
