I'm happy to call this a Black-faced Percher unless Dr. Perkins thinks otherwise. We havn't had many sightings on CNM so a nice sighting. :-)

Yes - a female, and a quite brightly coloured one at that. They are much less common than the other two local Perchers. I have only 9 records of this species from the ACT from the past three and a half years, from 8 locations. They are widespread but have a strong preference for heavily vegetated swamps or swampy dams.

Peter - it looks like your's might have been in the vege patch, which is interesting in itself. I've only ever seen them closely connected with water.

Thanks Roy and Harvey, it was in the vege patch and the dams we have are all about 100m away and non I would call heavily vegetated or swampy. They are normal farm dams.

Thanks for that further information, Peter. It's always possible she was moving between sites... Lot's of room for speculation will little chance of any real answers.
