New species - Lycium barbarum (Chinese Boxthorn). Identified by Matthew Baker and Steve Taylor. Previously only seems to be known from Tasmania. Found by Brett Jones. Margaret Ning
My initial impression was that this plant was without thorns, but on a closer look I found some. Any chance of a closeup showing some time thorns, and the flower in photo 2? I don't know how they got the idea it was mainly in Tasmania. The most recent local sightings of it on the Atlas of Living Australia were in Queanbeyan in 1997.
It was identified on Steve Taylor/Jenny Conolly's Canberra Invasive Plants Facebook site, after Cooma Weeds Officer sent in a pic from Cooma. The Tasmanian comment was made on that Facebook site.
