I've been trying to get a close-up of a blue-banded bee in our garden for 5 years without success and yours is the best ever. Even today I was pursuing one on our origano flowers but failed at a crucial moment.

I just noticed the second image where the BBB is being a nectar thief at the base of the flower. Do you know the name of the flower? I assume the top flower is a Michaelmas daisy.

Hi Roger, I think it is Laurentia, possibly axillaris, bought at Bunnings a few years ago. I also noticed that the nectar is at the base of the flower. I watched numerous times as a bee would land on the flower, then walk down to the base to get the nectar. The flower in the photo is still closed up.

Hi Alison, Now called Isotoma axillaris, rock Isotome, a local native, various cultivars sold in nurseries. Interesting behaviour, I have seen honeybees do the same on correa flowers
