Many thanks for the id Betty I was getting unsure about telling Plantago varia and Plantago coronopus subsp. commutata apart after I saw Silke's registration of Plantago coronopus subsp. commutata for Mt Ainslie, see http://canberranaturemap.org/Community/Sightings/Details/3359802.
The character that separates them in the Plantnet key is the number of flowers in the spike (usually under 10 in Plantago coronopus and a lot more than that in Plantago varia). Also Plantago varia is a lot more upright and a lot hairier.
