Significant sighting

ArcherCallaway noted:

4 Oct 2016

Apparently, Apostlebirds had only been recorded once in the ACT, way back in the Summer of 1948 when 6 birds were recorded in Hall, until this bird was first reported by Tony Nairn on 28/9/16. They are a bird of the drier inland regions to the north and west- the nearest populations are approximately 150kms away. Like choughs, they live in groups, so the fact that this bird appears to be alone is also interesting.

User's notes

My thanks to the first reporter last week. As others have noted, the bird is very friendly, offering excellent views as it forages for bugs and grubs etc. Kind regards, Roy.

I saw an apostlebird today (9/4/17) along Aspinall in Watson. Might be the same bird still here. I took a few very poor quality photos, but didn't get a GPS reading so couldn't upload. Interesting that it/they are hanging around Watson.

Yes the same bird has continued to be reported from that vicinity ever since.
