Derek Congratulations, it seems that you found a new population of Canberra Spider orchids :) The exact coordinates are very important and it would be great if you could confirm them at some stage. Cheers waltraud
waltraud Thanks, I am reasonably confident and as soon as the rain eases I will go back to confirm exact position just in case. The phone app on my Android phone can be Ks out (it has not been correct yet). I think/know the GPS is correct so I think it may just be identifying what else that is conflicting and turn that off. Any help would be great. I have ordered a GPS for my DSLR so that may be a better option when it arrives. Photos are easier too. Derek
Great. Actually do you see a map with the location of your orchid registration in CNM? As the administrator I can see the map with the orchid registration point but I don't know whether the person who registers can see the map as well. Reg tech issues with android I can't help as I only borrowed one recently and still learn how to use it... I know how to operate Garmin GPS units though.
Yes I can see and edit my map location in CNM. When I first uploaded the file it placed the location some where down among the houses, I moved the location to my best remembrance of the location but need to confirm for my own satisfaction and accuracy.
Location corrected. It would appear that the satellite image is incorrect (offset to the correct GPS location). When you see map road not over the satellite image of the road the map appears the more correct?
Derek i found Google Earth somehow shows incorrect positions; the inaccuracy could be quite significant (dozens of meters) depending on terrain. Must have something to do with the projection? Is the location of the spider orchids north (as shown on aerial image) or south of the road?
Perhaps I need to be more specific: north or south of the physical road ? (not the overlayed road that is a couple of meters to the north of the physical road).
Just South of the physical road. As I do not have a GPS I downloaded an app while I stood there which did give me coordinates. this would have been good if it had settled on just one reading but kept changing while I stood still. I am reasonably confident that the coordinates are correct and that would suggest to me the south of the overlay road much more accurate than the google satellite. If any doubt remains I would be happy to meet and walk there.
I think it would be useful to resolve which of these two different images is correct. I could if you thought it better reposition the location with reference to what you are calling the "physical road" (google satellite image) rather the "overlay" image (google map). I had only finally chosen the later as it appeared more consistent with the GPS coordinates captured at the sight but again with my Android phone using a new GPS app.
