In combat - when they are inter-twined they are either male and female mating or 2 males in combat - we observed and definitely a male warding off another. Photos are by Matthew Frawley

Brown snakes are notoriously difficult to ID at the best of times (unless you get a good view of their head shape) - so it's probably a long shot, but any gender-specific identifying marks for males or females?

Nathaniel, As far as I am aware, there is no way to identify whether individual snakes are male or female without checking out their vents. GeoffR
