In the lower right hand corner of the most drawn-back photo you see a small patch of dark green moss, very nondescript and with little detail - except some paler, yellow-green bits lying on the dark mat. This is likely to be Campylopus clavatus. In this species you get numerous short, leafy stems growing together to create a dense mat. The stem tips (with a few attached leaves) break easily and act as vegetative propagules. If such a fragment lands elsewhere, and conditions are right, a new colony may start. If you run your finger firmly over a Campylopus clavatus mat you'll see stem tips break off and be flicked about. The species is common in the ACT and can be found in suburban yards.
